We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our friendly, customer-focussed IT and Audio Visual department.
As our Network Engineer, you'll lead on keeping the College network secure, stable and fit for the future.
Responsibilities include:
1. Wired & wireless network design, deployment and management, including switching, routing and firewalling
2. IP addressing and name resolution
3. Inter-site connectivity, working with external providers
4. Server room infrastructure, working with our Estates team
5. Creating & maintaining diagrams and documentation, for business continuity and supportability
6. Compliance & best practice DR/BC, CE+, CIS Benchmarks, developing and applying policies & procedures, supporting audits
7. Supporting network-related projects and providing 3rd-line technical support

Education & Training
8. Educated to degree level in an IT-related subject or equivalent relevant experience
9. GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale
10. GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale
Experience
11. Experience of oversight / management of:
12. Network design
13. IP address schemas, DHCP scope management, DNS
14. Enterprise firewalls - configuration / management / policies (Preferably Fortigate)
15. Wired networking inc.: patching, VLANs, ACLs, routing, switching (edge & core) (Preferably Cisco)
16. Wireless networking (Preferably Aruba)
17. Inter-site connectivity
18. Fibre runs & patching
19. Server room: UPS sizing, management / monitoring, environmental monitoring
20. Web filtering (Preferably Smoothwall)
21. Experience of working in a large-scale IT environment (5,000+ users)
22. Understanding of and experience complying with security best practice and regulatory standards, GDPR, Cyber Essentials Plus, CIS Benchmarks
23. Support / maintenance and software licence management experience
24. Experience producing & maintaining documentation, diagrams, change logs
25. Experience contributing to the creation, updating and testing of IT disaster recovery policies & procedures
26. Experience producing performance / KPI reports, uptime
