THE ROLE
The News Design team is a multi-platform, multidisciplinary team within BBC News. As a Designer - Storytelling & formats, you will work closely with the Creative Director and the team, designing engaging storytelling and new formats for our website and app.
Main Responsibilities
Storytelling product design:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create visually stunning animations and illustrations.
• Design and execute compelling animations and illustrations that communicate narrative ideas effectively.
• Contribute to the brand’s visual language with innovative motion graphics and illustrated assets.
• Ensure visual coherence across platforms.
Illustration and Asset Creation:
• Develop custom illustrations and assets for animations and visual content.
• Maintain a high level of creativity and originality in alignment with brand guidelines.
Motion Graphics and Animation:
• Design animations that add depth and emotion to storytelling projects.
• Ensure all animations are optimised for digital platforms.
Collaboration:
• Work with editorial, engineering, product, and other designers to understand project goals.
Research and Innovation:
• Stay up-to-date with trends in illustration, animation, and visual storytelling.
Are you the right person?
* Experience in illustration, animation, or digital storytelling.
* Proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Procreate.
* Strong portfolio showcasing illustration and animation projects.
* Understanding of composition, colour theory, and storytelling principles.
* Experience working collaboratively in creative teams.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Receptive to feedback.
* Familiarity with accessibility principles in visual design is a plus.
