We are seeking to appoint a highly organised, enthusiastic, and experienced Deputy Head of Department to join our Service Industries department, with a focus on Service Industries. This is a key leadership role, vital to supporting the success of our learners and contributing to the strategic development of the department.

About the Role
As Deputy Head of Department, you will play a pivotal role in improving teaching, learning, and assessment while leading curriculum development and monitoring performance to secure outstanding learner outcomes. This role requires a dynamic individual who can effectively lead and inspire staff, manage quality assurance processes, and drive continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Head of Department in all aspects of leadership and management, including attendance, teaching quality, curriculum planning, and learner progress.
* Monitor and analyse departmental data (attendance, retention, achievement, and satisfaction) to identify areas for intervention and improvement.
* Lead on curriculum innovation, including the validation of new programmes and periodic review of existing ones.
* Ensure learner retention, achievement, and progression consistently exceed national averages.
* Line manage a team of lecturers and support staff, conducting appraisals, lesson observations, and regular 1:1s to support professional growth.
* Implement the department’s quality improvement and strategic plans, aligned with college-wide objectives.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
* Be an experienced educator with a background in the Service Industries sector (e.g., Hospitality, Public Services, Hair & Beauty, or related areas).
* Hold a recognised teaching qualification and, ideally, have experience in line managing or leading teams.
* Demonstrate a track record of improving standards, learner outcomes, and staff performance in an education setting.
* Be data-literate, with the ability to interrogate and act upon performance metrics to drive improvement.
* Be committed to delivering an exceptional learner experience and upholding the College’s values and standards.
