Clinical Support Worker - Bladder & Bowel Specialist Service

The service identifies causes of bladder/bowel dysfunction, aims to cure where possible, or manages with appropriate treatments to restore dignity and independence.
We are seeking a Clinical Support Worker with a Health and Social Care NVQ3 qualification (or equivalent). Key responsibilities include undertaking reassessments in patients’ homes and residential settings, delivering health promotion to patients and carers, preventing early admission to residential care, and demonstrating interpersonal skills with a caring, person‑centred approach. A full driving licence and own vehicle are essential.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 3 Clinical Support Worker, you will deliver high‑quality, caring, and compassionate personal care under the direction of a Bladder and Bowel Nurse Specialist. Your duties will encompass the care of patients in their homes, residential homes, or clinic rooms, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Clinical Practice

* Provide personalised bladder and bowel care, including advice on pelvic‑floor exercises, bladder retraining, and lifestyle changes.
* Document all care delivered, countersigned by a registered professional.
* Prepare patients for treatments, investigations, or procedures as directed, including bladder scanning and product ordering.
* Keep the clinical area clean, tidy, and infection controlled.
* Chaperone or escort patients under direction of the registered professional.
* Support relatives with compassion and empathy.
* Assist with discharge planning as directed.
Communications and Interpersonal Relationships
* Welcome patients, relatives and visitors; provide assistance, support and information.

* Answer calls on Netcall and pass enquiries to the registered professional.
* Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team and other departments.
* Contribute to patient care reporting, handover and documentation with confidentiality.
* Report incidents, accidents and complaints per Trust policy.
* Utilise the Trust information support system and other necessary computer systems.
Team Working
* Ensure safe keeping of patients’ property.
* Maintain a professional, welcoming environment; keep storage areas safe, clean and tidy.
* Share responsibility for equipment care and cleaning.
* Dispose of waste and soiled linen in line with Trust policy.
* Participate in audits under the registered professional’s direction.
* Clean and check beds, bed spaces and lockers upon discharge or admission.
* Maintain delivery storage and stock levels.
* Support housekeeping duties and report essential cleaning needs.
Education, Training and Personal Development
* Attend mandatory training (infection control, resuscitation, manual handling).
* Complete the Trust’s Clinical Support Worker/Healthcare Assistant induction programme.
* Participate in appraisals and personal reviews; work to achieve agreed objectives.
* Pursue further training relevant to the role, including IT and clinical skills.
* Maintain current knowledge of policy and procedural changes.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE level A‑C in English and Maths or equivalent.
* NVQ/Diploma level 3 or equivalent higher apprenticeship in healthcare.
Experience
* Experience delivering care in a healthcare or people‑centred environment.
* Experience working as part of a team.
Skills
* Competence in care skills.
* Good written, verbal, and non‑verbal communication skills.
