Adult Social Worker Locum - East Sussex Council 6 Month Job
Rate: £38 per hour
Contract: Locum - initial 6 months
Working Pattern: Full‑time, 37 hours per week

Caritas Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Adult Social Worker to join East Sussex County Council's Neighbourhood Support Team on a locum basis. This is a community‑focused role covering rural areas across Lewes and North Wealden, delivering Care Act assessments and reviews to support adults to live as independently as possible.
Due to the nature of the role, the successful locum must be a car user to complete community visits.
The Role
You will work within the Neighbourhood Support Team, carrying out statutory social work duties under the Care Act 2014, supporting adults, carers and families within the community. The postholder will manage a varied caseload, including assessments, reviews, safeguarding work and outcome‑focused support planning.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake a range of statutory social work tasks including:
Care Act assessments and reviews
Analysis, support planning and commissioning services
Assessing and managing risk
Investigation of adult safeguarding concerns
Identify and appropriately report adult safeguarding concerns, liaising with partner agencies and acting as Investigating Officer when delegated
Apply relevant legal frameworks, statutory guidance and departmental policies to support outcome‑based planning for adults
Work directly with adults in need, carers, families and communities to:
Support informed decision‑making
Empower individuals to express needs and participate in planning
Work collaboratively with partner agencies to help adults build community support networks and maintain independence
Maintain high‑quality case recording and prepare reports for panels and court where required
Contribute to the learning and development of students, newly qualified social workers and colleagues, including mentoring and group supervisionA full Social Worker Job Description will be provided to candidates selected for interview.
What We're Looking For
Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
Minimum of 2 years' recent experience within a similar Adult Social Care or community‑based team
Strong working knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and safeguarding procedures
Ability to manage a community caseload and work autonomously
Car driver essential due to rural community visits
Strong communication, assessment and recording skills
