Principal Pipeline Engineer (Energy) – WSP UK & Ireland
The role of Principal Pipeline Engineer involves leading the development of mechanical designs for a wide range of transmission projects including natural gas, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide pipelines. The position requires delivering concept, FEED, and detailed design work and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Typical Week:
* Develop cost‑effective, efficient and innovative solutions to complex problems.
* Work across project stages including feasibility studies, concept design, FEED, value engineering, and detailed design.
* Prepare pipeline deliverables and above‑ground installation specifications such as wall‑thickness calculations and piping specifications.
* Undertake pipeline routing, population studies and high‑pressure pipeline diversions.
* Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in design development.
* Support development of layouts and 3D models.
* Prepare proposals and bids for piping and layout disciplines.
Qualifications:
* Degree in a relevant engineering subject.
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards IEng/CEng and membership of a relevant engineering institute.
* Understanding of IGEM/TD/1 and TD/13 and gas network operator addenda.
* Experience in pipeline and AGI design, including high‑pressure diversions.
* Familiarity with national and international codes and standards for plant equipment and piping.
* Experience using Autodesk products (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, BIM360) and MS Office suite.
* Ability to work in a multi‑discipline team on plant 3D models.
* Knowledge of troubleshooting and integrity issue resolution.
