Description
The Gas Operative (Support Engineer) will assist the Team Leader in activities related to locating and repairing public-reported gas escapes. The role involves making safe and/or repairing gas service pipes or mains, re-assessing previously visited escapes, laying mains and/or services, and carrying out mains/service isolations as a Support Operative.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the classification and programming of gas escapes, including testing, survey, detection, and diagnostic work on the network and in gas consumers' premises.
* Receive instructions via data and verbal requests, plan and organize resources, and make arrangements to ensure efficient work execution.
* Assist in laying, connecting, disconnecting, commissioning, decommissioning, and maintaining pipework, associated plant, and equipment, including non-routine work or specialist tasks.
* Respond to emergencies, participate in standby duties, and assist in testing, surveying, detection, and diagnostic activities.
* Ensure excavation, backfill, reinstatement, and repair work meet standards, including waste removal.
* Provide training, advice, guidance, and support to teams and individuals involved in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system.
* Offer advice and support to third parties operating near or on the gas transportation system.
* Assist in gathering information and preparing reports, including technical documentation.
* Manage the ordering, receipt, inspection, storage, stock control, and handling of equipment, goods, and materials according to standards and procedures.
Promote team working and development to achieve business objectives and improve performance.
Experience and Qualifications
