Overview
Health Care Assistant role at Mendip Vale Medical Group (MVMG) for Southmead and Henbury Practice, Bristol. This permanent, part-time position supports the nursing team and works with GPs and other clinical staff to provide high standards of patient care.
Job Responsibilities
* The post-holder will work in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols, assisting the clinical teams in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. Undertake delegated duties mostly without direct supervision in the Surgery, ensuring continuity and a high standard of care to all patients.
* Develop good working relationships with Patients; GP, AP, nurses and other Surgery staff.
* Undertake a variety of delegated duties within the guidelines and protocols set by the Surgery.
* Deliver a high standard of patient care as indicated in the care plan and report back as required.
* Participate in the care of patients with long-term conditions; if competent, undertake reviews of such patients following Surgery guidelines and protocols, and report back to the senior nurse.
* Engage in health promotion activity and give lifestyle advice to patients and carers according to Surgery policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Undertake delegated nursing and rehabilitation procedures (e.g., phlebotomy, INR testing, blood pressure measurement, dressings, vaccinations and injections under PSDs, ECG recording, ear syringing, diabetic foot checks).
* Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies and apply principles of self-care.
* Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
* Be aware of and comply with all relevant Surgery policies/guidelines (e.g., confidentiality, data protection, health and safety).
* Assist in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being; undertake chaperoning duties; daily clearing and restocking of clinical rooms.
* Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during minor operations.
* Undertake other duties commensurate with the post holder's grade as agreed with the Nurse Manager or Surgery Manager; contribute to service developments and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
* Contribute to the development of computer-based patient records and to Read-Coding patient data; contribute to the maximum Surgery performance under QOF.
* Attend training and events organised by the Surgery or other agencies as appropriate.
Qualifications
Essential
* Care certificate / NVQ level 2 health and social care or equivalent.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent or working towards.

Experience
Essential
* Practical nursing skills (e.g., phlebotomy, basic observations including temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, IM injections).
* Experience of working with people with long-term conditions or older people.
* Appreciation of the nature of GPs and General Practices.
Desirable
* Ear syringing; support to stop smoking; stitch and clip removal; basic dry dressing/wound care; spirometry.
