The Emergency Department at the Royal Surrey County Hospital sees approximately 75,000 patients every year of which around 18,000 are paediatric patients. To support and enhance the care we provide to patients and their families we are seeking an enthusiastic Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our vibrant Paediatric Emergency Department. As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will lead and mentor a team of dedicated nurses, ensuring high standards of care in our fast-paced environment. Main duties
* Lead and coordinate the nursing team to deliver high-quality evidence based care to paediatric patients and their families in a fast-paced environment.
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for children and young people presenting with a variety of acute conditions.
* Provide a high standard of individualised patient care reflecting individual competencies and education that involves relatives/carers as appropriate.
* Maintain the positive links with the integrated service and develop the Paediatric A&E area, in line with emergency reform.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and effective treatment plans.
* Support and educate families, providing them with the information and reassurance they need during challenging times.
* Participate in staff development and training, contributing to the growth of the nursing team.

* Salary £40,617 to £48,778 a year (per annum) pro-rata - includes high cost area supplements (HCAS)
* Contract: Permanent

Job responsibilities
In this role and with the help and support of the Medical and Senior Management team and the clinicians within the department you will:

Qualifications
Essential
* NMC Registered Paediatric nurse
* Evidence of recent professional updating and relevant personal development
* A willingness to undertake or hold the Paediatric A&E course, equivalent
* Qualified Mentor
* PILS
* Post registration education relevant to post
* Manchester Triage
Desirable
* APLS / EPLS
Knowledge
Essential
* Experience as a staff nurse in Paediatric A&E or equivalent environment
* Demonstrates professional awareness and knowledge
* Understanding of current issues in Acute NHS Setting
* Can demonstrate up-to-date clinical credibility / Competence.
* Knowledge and experience of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
* Knowledge of current NHS and Professional issues
* Experience of 24 hour period of nursing care
Desirable
* Evidence of change management achievements
