Appointment commences 03/04/2026 until 03/02/2027

The post is based at the prestigious Royal Derby Hospital, incorporated within University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The Orthopaedic Department at the Royal Derby Hospital has a long history of Orthopaedic innovation and excellence. This thriving department boasts world renowned and leading Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Applications are invited for this prestigious post, which offers advanced training and experience in all aspects of upper limb surgery. The post is suitable for a trainee with CCT or a year 6 orthopaedic trainee, with FRCS (Orth) or equivalent, Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise at time of application is required and with a special interest in knee surgery. Due to a change in the rotation date for trainees this appointment will be for 10 months.

Post holders must hold FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent and have a minimum 12 months NHS experience at Registrar level or above.

We are very proud that previous post holders have all been able to use the experience and education gained during this fellowship to further their career successfully at consultant level, the huge majority becoming specialist upper limb surgeons.

The Trauma and Orthopaedics Unit at Royal Derby comprises 8 purpose-built state of the art laminar flow theatres as well as dedicated outpatient clinic facilities for both Trauma and Elective patients. As one of the largest Orthopaedic Departments in the country, the full spectrum of upper limb surgery is performed in Derby.

The hospital has a state of the art postgraduate training library and a variety of teaching and clinical audit sessions occur throughout each month. The Royal Derby Hospital runs regular teaching sessions and is committed to career progression and furthering education.

The Royal Derby Hospital is based in Derby City which is one of the UK's most centrally positioned cities situated on the River Derwent and with excellent connections to London and elsewhere. Derby is a thriving, cohesive, multicultural city where people quickly settle into local communities. Access to the delightful Peak District is extremely easy.

It should be noted that this post does not carry with it a National Training Number 'of right' as the focus of the Fellowship has moved towards post CCT super-specialist Training. However the post holders have, in the past, always been given retrospective approval by the SAC if the need arose due to their stage of training.
