Job Description
Project Management support roles within Smiths Detection are broad administrative roles with responsibilities ranging from assisting Project Managers to deliver work packages, to maintaining accurate schedule updates in support of the overall portfolio delivery and ensuring accurate Engineering records are made for baseline design and subsequent Engineering changes.
This will be a 2 year Fixed Term Contract, ideally the successful applicant will be based close to Peterborough. This role will include some travel to customer site within that local area. It is essential that you have your own vehicle.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assistant Project Manager:
5. Assist with the initiating, planning, monitoring & controlling, communicating and close-out phases of projects, contributing to the completion of Product Lifecycle Process Gates where applicable. Operate in accordance with relevant Smith Detection Programme Excellence Centre (PEC) processes.
6. Acting under direction coordinate specific activities of integrated project and/or cross-functional teams to contribute to the successful completion of milestones.
7. Operate in accordance with the standardised business rhythm that coordinates the activities of project management, finance and project controls teams. Support with the maintenance of project records.
8. Assist with the production/maintenance of project artefacts (e.g. Work breakdown Structure, Cost Breakdown Structure, Responsibility Assignment Matrix, Responsible Accountable Consulted Informed (RACI) Matrix, time scheduling, resource planning, risk and change management controls, etc).
9. Assist with the establishment and maintenance of cost and schedule baselines.
10. Typical duties specific to Commercial orientated projects include: Assist with the completion of project Kick-off and Sales to Project Management Handover.Support with finance management covering revenue recognition and reporting.Contribute to successful handover to service.
Project Controller:
11. Support the effective execution of project controls related to the initiating, planning, monitoring & controlling, communicating and close-out phases of all projects in their assigned portfolio.
12. Contribute to the provision of necessary project controls support to cross-functional teams to achieve successful completion of projects to their committed delivery dates within budgeted costs operating as an embedded member of project teams.
13. Operate in accordance with the standardised project business rhythm that coordinates the activities of project management, finance and project controls teams.
14. Support the establishment and maintenance of the required minimum number of artefacts (e.g. Work breakdown Structure, Cost Breakdown Structure, Responsibility Assignment Matrix, Responsible Accountable Consulted Informed (RACI) Matrix, time scheduling, resource planning, risk and change management controls, etc) commensurate with the project categorisation.
15. Assist with the application of recognised project controls practises to achieve the establishment of cost, schedule and resource baselines and the maintenance of such baselines through the updating of forecasts and the management of scope. Apply the defined risk and change control process in accordance with the business rhythm.
16. Assist with the completion of monthly variance analysis to explain and interpret the impact against the baseline and the completion and tracking of corrective/preventative actions.
17. Support the completion of timely, accurate and standardised project reporting.
Portfolio Specific Duties:
18. Maintain the overall deployment Master Schedule, ensuring it accurately reflects the current position for planning of Factory Acceptance and subsequent Site installation and commissioning activities.
19. Work with key suppliers to determine priorities and essential lead time requirements from the business are flowed down accurately to the suppliers and remain achievable in accordance with the Master Schedule.
20. Maintain accurate records of the Engineering status of deployed equipment. Update Engineering Records whenever a change has been introduced to the deployed status.
21. Act as meeting secretary for the Engineering Change Board, ensuring decisions taken are recorded. Monitor and report on the completion of actions by meeting attendees.

Knowledge:
22. Reasonable knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and evidence of their application in a practical environment.
Skills:
23. Initial experience of project management environment.Developing verbal and written communication and people management skills.Good problem-solving skills.

24. Plans daily activities in accordance with general instructions on routine work and detailed guidance on new assignments.
25. Make decisions in the context of designated responsibilities with outputs being reviewed prior to finalisation
