Power Electronics Design Engineer
Location: Milton Keynes
Salary: £55,000 per annum
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
The Opportunity
We are delighted to be partnering with a true innovator in the high-performance automotive and motorsport sectors. Based in the engineering hub of Milton Keynes, our client is pushing the absolute boundaries of electric vehicle (EV) technology.
The Role
As a Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will own the design and development of power electronic circuitry and sub-components across the entire product development lifecycle. You will be working on cutting-edge systems with working voltages up to 1000V and power ratings exceeding 150kW.
Your Key Responsibilities:
* Design & Develop: Lead the schematic capture and PCB design of low and high-voltage power electronic sub-assemblies.
* Component Selection: Specify and select critical components, including Power Modules, DC Link Capacitors, and Gate Drivers.
* Simulate & Verify: Execute circuit simulations and drive the verification and testing processes for power electronics devices.
* Collaboration: Capture specifications and requirements in line with industry standards, and actively support design reviews for electronics and software projects.
* Lifecycle Management: Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM), component specifications, and engineering drawings.
* Problem Solving: Investigate and resolve development, launch, and ongoing quality issues, maintaining detailed design records and implementing engineering changes where required.
About You
You are a naturally proactive engineer with a strong "first principles" approach to problem-solving. You thrive when working independently but know exactly how to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Requirements:
* Education: A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
* HV Experience: Proven experience designing analogue and power electronics up to 1000V and power ratings >150kW.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency with schematic capture, PCB design tools, and circuit simulation.
* Component Knowledge: Strong understanding of IGBTs, MOSFETs, and associated drive/monitoring circuitry.
* Quality & Safety: Experience with failure mode avoidance tools (DFMEA, FTA) and delivering tolerance and lifetime calculations.
* Logistics: A professional communication style, a full clean UK driving license, and a willingness to occasionally travel to client sites.
Desirable (The "Nice-to-Haves"):
* A relevant Master’s degree.
* Hands-on experience with Altium Designer, LTSPICE, or PSIM.
* Background working with wide bandgap power devices.
* Familiarity with automotive standards, global EMC standards, and ISO26262 functional safety engineering processes.
