ALTEN UK is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Developer to join our engineering team supporting a long-term defence programme involving high-precision optical systems. You will be instrumental in developing embedded software for next-generation submarine technology, focusing on real-time system challenges and mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and integrate embedded real-time software using C++ for PIC-based microcontrollers.
2. Perform coding, debugging, and low-level hardware interactions to support system integration.
3. Ensure compliance with project-specific and defence safety standards.
4. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including systems and hardware engineers.
5. Manage requirements using DOORS throughout the software lifecycle.
6. Contribute to design reviews, testing, and process improvements.
Qualifications & Skills:
1. 5+ years in embedded software development with C++ in real-time systems.
2. Strong microcontroller integration experience, especially PIC.
3. Experience with safety-critical standards like DO-178C or MISRA.
4. Proficiency in software lifecycle activities and requirements management tools like DOORS.
5. Proactive problem-solving attitude.
Desirable Skills:
1. Experience with optomechanical systems or embedded systems in defence or aerospace.
2. Knowledge of low-level drivers, firmware, and hardware/software interfacing.
3. Familiarity with configuration management and debugging tools.
Qualifications & Security:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Electronics, or Computer Science.
2. Military/Armed Forces experience in a technical role is advantageous.
3. Must be a sole UK national and eligible for SC Clearance, with a minimum of 5 years UK residency.
