Assistant Team Manager – Better Care at Home Service (BCaH)
Part Time – 18.5 hours per week. 18‑month fixed‑term contract/secondment opportunity due to funding.
Our new Better Care at Home Service is a dynamic and exciting opportunity to showcase Occupational Therapy in Social Care and the benefits of optimising independence and reducing manual handling of people. Better Care at Home (BCaH) is a key improvement programme within Solihull Adult Social Care, focused on maximising independence, reducing avoidable manual handling and improving outcomes for adults, carers and the Council. This is an exciting, and rare opportunity to help shape and embed a service that strengthens Occupational Therapy practice and supports safe, dignified care at home.
We are looking for a part‑time, Assistant Team Manager on a Fixed Term Contract to project‑lead the launch of this service to improve moving and handling assessments, decision making and practice. The Assistant Team Manager will provide clear leadership for the BCaH workstream and be responsible for its successful mobilisation and transition of good moving and handling practice into business as usual. This role requires a confident and credible leader who can drive improvement, set direction and maintain a strong focus on quality, consistency and performance.
Responsibilities
You will project‑lead the service launch, embed systems and protocols, and establish clear performance measures that evidence improved outcomes for people, carers and the Council. You will lead training and awareness activity across Adult Social Care and partner organisations, set aspirational but deliverable targets, and challenge practice constructively to secure sustained improvements in moving and handling practice.
The role involves working closely with OT Duty, Reablement, Community OT teams, social work services, NHS colleagues and care providers to build shared expectations and consistent standards.
The launch will involve training and awareness raising, identifying aspirational performance targets and systems and protocols for policy and practice that can become standard practice across the directorate and demonstrate the cost and personal outcome benefits.
Line management will be through the Reablement Team Manager but the Better Care at Home team will work closely with OT Duty, Reablement and Community OT’s to promote good practice and effective and positive Moving & Handling risk assessments across all OT provision. You will work closely with partner care agencies to support effective care planning associated with good Moving & Handling techniques, practice and familiarisation with equipment; you will liaise with NHS colleagues involved in discharge planning and working in the community to build shared standards and expectations; and you will work closely with Social Worker teams to raise awareness of the better outcomes as well as reduced costs of reduced handling.
