The client is a 30 year old man with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who uses an electric wheelchair to get around in and out of the house. Given the opportunity, he’s very social, and is very interested in making and designing things with his 3D printer and laptop. When the sun is out he enjoys investigating in the garden and checking in on the plants.
He is a very easy going person; loves to make himself and others laugh, and is often up for an excursion. He does have bad days here and there, where the nature of his condition can overwhelm him, and so we’re looking for someone capable of being both hands on with his care routine, and positively support his mental health.
We’re looking for someone with an attentive character, who can respond to his needs and signals; he often shuffles in his chair, meaning he may need lifting out of his chair or lying on the bed. The role will largely consist of asking him if he’s okay and what he’d like to get up to, so being able to get on with him and able to support him in what he wishes to do is really important.
We are looking for someone of a similar age with a sense of humour who would motivate and encourage the client on a variety of activities. You will receive:
1. Standard rate starting from £11.00 per hour
2. A pension (if eligible)
3. 5.6 weeks per year pro rata annual leave
4. Full certificated training on all aspects of the role
Hours available:
5. 24 hours over 3 days per week. Flexibility is required as the days may change for which notice will be given beforehand.
6. There is the opportunity to work additional hours on occasions in relation to holidays and sickness
What’s Required:
7. Provide domiciliary care
8. Administer medication
9. Use Nippy 4 and Nippy 3 machines and applying breathing masks
10. Manually move and adjust the client throughout the day
11. Use a ceiling hoist and sling for movement
12. Drive the client to appointments – full driving license essential
13. Prepare nutrition and fluids, including supplement and using PEG feeding
