Financial Controller PE‑backed Manufacturing Business | Barnsley Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 £5,000 car allowance bonus Hybrid working - minimum 3 days onsite Robert Half Finance & Accounting are recruiting for a Financial Controller to join a high‑growth, Private Equity‑backed manufacturing business in Barnsley. Following a period of significant expansion through acquisition, the business is now entering its next phase, professionalising the finance function, embedding stronger controls, and creating meaningful financial insight to support operational and strategic decision‑making. This is a senior, hands‑on Number 1 finance role on site, ideally suited to a commercially minded Financial Controller who enjoys building, improving and influencing, rather than inheriting a finished product. The Role Reporting directly to the UK Managing Director, with a dotted line to a European Finance Director, the Financial Controller will have full ownership of the UK finance function and play a key role in shaping the business as it continues to scale. Key responsibilities include: Financial Leadership & Reporting: Full responsibility for monthly management accounts, statutory reporting and compliance across UK entities. Controls & Process Improvement: Review, implement and embed appropriate financial controls and processes aligned to PE ownership. Systems & Transformation: Lead the implementation of a new finance system and drive improvements in reporting, data quality and insight. Budgeting & Forecasting: Rebuild budgeting and forecasting processes, including cash flow management and liquidity planning. Operational & Commercial Finance: Act as a key business partner to operations and supply chain, with a focus on costing, margins, inventory and manufacturing performance. Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Support and develop a small transactional finance team and work closely with senior stakeholders, including PE investors where required. The Ideal Candidate Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA). Proven experience in a change‑led finance role, ideally within a growing or acquiring business. Track record of implementing new systems, controls and processes. Strong commercial and operational mindset with the confidence to partner at MD level. Comfortable operating as a Number 1 on site while reporting into a group or regional structure. Manufacturing and/or PE‑backed experience is beneficial but not essential.
