Clinical Lead - Harrow Community Specialist Palliative Care

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinician to join the Harrow Community Specialist Palliative Care Team as a Clinical Lead (Band 8a).

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Services, - Harrow Integrated Care the post holder will provide clinical, professional, and operational leadership to the Clinical Nurse Specialist team, ensuring the delivery of high quality, patient centred palliative care services across Harrow.

This role combines advanced clinical practice, leadership, education, service development, research, and quality improvement. The successful candidate will provide expert specialist advice, support workforce development, lead service improvements, and contribute to the strategic direction of community palliative care services.

This is an excellent opportunity to influence service delivery and improve outcomes for patients and families across Harrow.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for:

  • Lead and manage the Harrow Community Specialist Palliative Care Team, ensuring the delivery of high quality, responsive, and patient centred care.
  • Provide expert clinical leadership and specialist palliative care advice for complex patients, supporting multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
  • Deputise for the Head of Clinical Services and contribute to the strategic development and operational management of the service.
  • Lead workforce development through clinical supervision, education, training, case reviews, and professional support for the Clinical Nurse Specialist team.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with primary care, acute trusts, hospices, community services, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead on clinical governance, audit, research, quality improvement, and service evaluation activities to ensure compliance with national standards and best practice.
  • Support the development of policies, pathways, and service redesign initiatives, including the ongoing development of the seven day specialist palliative care advice service.
  • Act as a specialist resource for palliative care across CLCH, promoting innovation, evidence based practice, and excellence in end of life care.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification

  • Current NMC registration
  • Post registration qualifications in Palliative care
  • Willingness to undertake further academic study at a higher level e.g. master's degree
  • Advanced communications course
  • Nurse Prescriber V300 or willing to work towards
  • Teaching and Assessing Course

Experience

  • Up to date palliative care knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated management experience including managing staff, appraisals and recruitment
  • Experience of planning and implementing service developments
  • Relevant experience in development and delivery of service plans
  • Experience of audit and service improvement
  • Experience of managing a budget
  • Experience of managing complex projects
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategy
  • Experience in undertaking initiatives across a number of organisations
  • Experience working with stakeholders to implement projects and initiatives
  • Experience in undertaking research projects
  • Community experience
  • Experience of cross boundary working in partnership and collaboration with health, social and voluntary sectors

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of principles and philosophy of palliative care
  • Range of clinical skills and expertise relevant to the role
  • Knowledge NMC code of conduct
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance
  • Knowledge of Clinical Supervision
  • Ability to think strategically and produce strategic plans
  • Evident ability to influence others and gain commitment
  • Proven negotiation, facilitation and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Project management and evaluation skills
  • Excellent organisational, time management and prioritising skills
  • Ability to interpret financial, service output and outcome information.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills including the ability to give clear presentations on complex issues to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to use IT to produce documents, spreadsheets, databases and presentations
  • Ability to engage with and gain confidence of health and social care professionals and local communities
