Job summary
This is 10 PA fixed term 1 year locum NHS consultant surgeon at the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder must have a proven ability in all aspects of adult cardiac and transplant surgery and organ donor management and retrieval.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilitie s
1. Provide assessment and treatment for transplant patients.
2. Be part of the consultant on call rota for organ retrieval, providing specially commissioned services such as paediatric and DCD heart retrievals. The appointee is encouraged to take part in other potential developments regarding organ retrieval and novel technologies.
3. Provide assessment and treatment for cardiac surgery patients.
4. Contribute to the training, supervision, assessment and appraisal of junior doctors in accordance with standards required by the hospital, Royal College and Postgraduate Dean.
5. Participate in the training of other members of the surgical and transplant team.
6. Participate in the education programme for medical students attached to Papworth
7. Ensure that practice standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal

8. MBBS, and FRCS/MRCS or equivalents.
9. UK Specialist Registration in Cardiothoracic Surgery or within 6 months of completion of specialist training or recognised equivalent EU/EA qualification -- at interview date

11. Proven ability in cardiac surgery with evidence of performance to a high standard in all aspects of practice, including emergency cardiac surgery
12. Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need.
13. Demonstrates appropriate technical competence and evidence of development of excellent diagnostic skills & judgement. Validated logbook- documentation of surgical exposure to date.
14. Worked at least 12 months in cardiothoracic transplantation
15. Currently working in Transplantation
16. Signed off for organ Retrieval
17. Knowledge and skills of novel technologies in organ retrieval

18. Shows aptitude for practical skills, hand-eye co-ordination, dexterity, visual-spatial awareness
19. Attendance at relevant courses, ATLS, basic surgical skills
