Directorate Manager for Division of Surgery, Women's and Children's

Band 8B - 37.5 Hours per week

Job summary

This position offers a fantastic opportunity to be part of a fabulous team working within Surgery, Women's and Children's services. You will be responsible for continually improving the quality of services to patients, and redesigning services to meet best practice standards.


Main duties of the job

You will be a visible leader and provide direction to the services within your portfolio, working in collaboration with clinical leads and matron lead colleagues, as well as other directorate manager colleagues from across the trust. You will be responsible and accountable for the overall management of the services within the directorate. You will develop the strategy for the directorate, playing a key role in identifying opportunities for innovation and modernisation and leading programmes of transformation. You will be responsible for the delivery of all directorate objectives and performance targets, across all 4 quadrants of People, Quality, Operational Performance and Finance, ensuring the service we offer to patients is of the highest quality, safety and efficiency.

Education and Qualifications


Essential

* Education to Degree level or evidence of working towards


Desirable

* Education to Masters degree level or evidence of sound intellectual ability and ongoing personal development at senior management level
* Recognised post‑graduate management qualification or equivalent experience


Experience


Essential

* Previous experience of managing operational services and dealing with competing demands.
* Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams including medical staff
* Experience and commitment to quality, innovation, productivity and prevention.
* Staff & Budget Management experience
* Experience of personal accountability for service delivery
* Experience of leading service improvement initiatives across a multidisciplinary team


Knowledge


Essential

* Knowledge of managing within an NHS healthcare setting
* Broad knowledge of NHS Information & IT systems
* Experience of dealing with difficult operational issues.
* Experience of dealing with or completing investigations and RCAs
* Knowledge of NHS complaints and clinical incident reporting best practice


Desirable

* Up to date with relevant national guidance on NHS management issues

Essential

* Assertive, confident and able to work under own initiative
