New post offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered. Duties will be based primarily on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.
Main Duties of the Job
Applications are invited for a full time Consultant post in Respiratory Medicine. The successful candidate will join a team of 18 consultants at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. Our team provides general and specialist in‑patient and out‑patient services including:
* Specialist sleep service caring for sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders (5 000 patients on CPAP)
* Home ventilation service (350 patients on home ventilation)
* Purpose built dedicated 14‑bed Acute Respiratory Care unit for patients requiring acute NIV, acute CPAP, HFNO etc.
* Large lung cancer service with thoracoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (about 500 new cancers pa)
* Comprehensive lung cancer multi‑disciplinary meeting with close links to thoracic surgery
* Nationally recognised asthma service
* Specialist services for interstitial lung disease and tuberculosis

Job Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
* Delivery of outpatient clinics (general and specialist)
* Inpatient respiratory work including the Acute Respiratory Care unit (Respiratory Level 1 Unit)
* Urgent and emergency care duties for respiratory medicine, including out‑of‑hours on‑call
* On‑call duties as part of a specialist respiratory rota (1 in 16 weekdays for ward rounds, 1 in 8 weekend days for overnight cover, etc.)
* Supporting professional activities: at least 1.5 SPA per core 10PA, further SPA or DCC as appropriate
* Teaching, research and service development opportunities
Essential Person Specification Requirements
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
* Registered on the GMC Specialist Register for Respiratory Medicine or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent)
* Medical Degree from recognised medical school; MRCP or equivalent and training in respiratory medicine
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving; good time management
* Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services
* Clear communication with staff and patients; caring and compassionate
* Flexible and adaptable; willing to learn hospital internal systems and processes
* Physically able to carry out duties and evidence competencies
* Disclose + Barring Service (DBS) clearance
