Overview
The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton invites applications from exceptional individuals for the position of Lecturer or Associate Professor in Structural Dynamics. Related areas of interest include, but are not limited to, passive and active vibration control, biodynamics, vibroacoustics, vibration based non-destructive evaluation, nonlinear dynamics and electrodynamic systems.
The ISVR has been at the forefront of research and education in sound and vibration for over 60 years. We have built an international reputation through pioneering academic research, strong and enduring collaborations with industry, and generations of skilled graduates who have spread throughout the acoustics profession. We have excellent experimental facilities including a large 6-axis motion simulator and a suite of acoustic chambers.
Responsibilities
* Hold a teaching and research profile aligned with Structural Dynamics, delivering high-quality education across engineering-related subjects in large modules and, where appropriate, coordinating modules with curriculum design, module-level assessment, and quality assurance.
* Develop innovative future research programmes and actively seek external funding to build a research team, with a demonstrable track record of research funding for appointment at Associate Professor level.
* Collaborate across the University and with other world-leading institutions; engage in mentorship, training, and leadership development opportunities.
* Lead and contribute to specialist modules aligned with your research areas; contribute to teaching innovation and excellence in the School of Engineering.
* Support teaching qualifications through the part-time PGCert in Academic Practice (PGCAP) if a higher education teaching qualification is not already held.
Qualifications
* PhD or equivalent experience in structural dynamics and vibration, with an impressive publication record in high-quality journals.
* A clear vision for innovative future research programmes and the drive to secure external funding; international standing in the research field for Associate Professor level.
* A demonstrable track record of teaching in higher education is required for appointment at Associate Professor level.
* Experience of working in or with industry is advantageous.
