Overview
Lead Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer – Bethlem Royal Hospital (SLaM). The role involves leading the dispensary service and implementing, delivering and continually improving pharmacy services for both in‑patient wards and community mental health teams.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the day‑to‑day activities of the dispensary team.
* Ensure the accurate and timely preparation, dispensing and distribution of medications to hospital departments.
* Provide guidance and training to junior staff, ensuring excellent patient care.
* Plan, supervise and prioritise daily workload within the dispensary; produce staff rotas to ensure appropriate staffing and skill mix.
* Support the Operations Manager to ensure the dispensary runs efficiently and is patient and customer focused.
* Support the provision of ward‑based services relating to the supply of medicines.
* Work closely with the Operations Manager and lead pharmacy technicians to ensure training needs for ATOs and PTPT apprentices are met and their relevant competencies are completed.
Qualifications
* Good GCSEs or equivalent.
* Full NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent.
* Experience as a pharmacy assistant in a hospital setting and natural leadership qualities.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a large multi‑disciplinary team.
* Friendly, approachable, adaptable and willing to learn new skills.
* Commitment to continuous professional development.
* When entry criteria are met, expected to undertake training to become an Accuracy Checking ATO, meeting national framework requirements.
