Job Purpose
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and operational support of critical network infrastructure used to deliver ATM (Air Traffic Management) services across UK airports. This role demands a high level of technical expertise and a deep understanding of real-time, safety-critical systems in regulated environments, along with team leadership
Duties Include
* Lead the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of secure, high-availability network solutions supporting ATM services
* Coordinate project timelines, technical requirements, and engineering estimates with stakeholders across NATS, airport authorities, and third-party vendors
* Ensure compliance with aviation safety, cybersecurity, and performance standards through change and assurance processes
* Deliver Tier 3/4 support, including fault diagnosis, incident resolution, and technical investigations for live operational airport networks
* Plan and execute network changes with minimal disruption to live services.
* Manage acceptance testing, technical validation, and documentation of network architectures, configurations, and changes in line with regulatory governance
* Lead and allocate resources across teams, ensuring skills, performance, and effective cross-site collaboration
* Drive continuous improvement, support technology refreshes, and stay current with industry developments
Qualifications/Skills
* The post holder is expected to hold, a Higher National Certificate in an Engineering or Information Technology related discipline, and relevant experience. Job holders not holding the expected qualification but who have undertaken structured technical training (e.g. apprenticeship recognised by a professional body) with recognised qualification ideally to at least HNC equivalent level will also be considered
* Effective team leader and collaborative team member with excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
* Excellent verbal/written skills, able to simplify technical concepts and align tech with business needs
* Calm, analytical approach to complex issues; strong planning and delivery capability
* In-depth knowledge of Cisco technologies, Palo Alto firewalls, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, PIM), with hands-on experience in network security, monitoring, and performance tools
* Familiar with ITIL, change control, and regulated environments
* Committed to continuous professional growth; certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, PCNSA, or PCNSE are held or actively pursued
* Background or strong interest in aviation, defence, or transport, with passion for ATM and safety
