Job Responsibilities
* 12-hour inpatient cover at Royal Berkshire Hospital
* On-call for GI bleed and 2‑3 clinics per week
* 2‑3 endoscopy lists per week (including service and training lists)
* Vet and validate endoscopy, GP and ward referrals
* Participate in Rapid Diagnostic Centre programme (Upper GI & Colorectal 2WW referrals)
* Develop the gastroenterology service in collaboration with consultant colleagues
* Support registrars and nurse specialists in training during clinics and endoscopy
* Active participation in monthly departmental clinical governance meetings and specialty business meetings
* Weekly attendance at Consultant team meetings
* Educational supervision of registrars, nurse specialists and physician associates as required
Person Specification
Essential
* Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration within 6 months of CCST interview date
* Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom or equivalent
* Fully trained in gastroenterology and all aspects of general gastroenterology patient care
* Endoscopy procedures – UGI and LGI
* Previous responsibility for clinical governance and GMC Good Medical Practice
* Ability to work within clinical governance guidelines and undertake audits
* Good IT skills, including use of patient and hospital databases
* Track record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals
* Evidence of teaching and supervision of trainees
* Contributes to improving patient experience and involves patients in care decisions
* Ability to work in partnership to deliver a patient‑centred service
* Willingness to embrace user involvement
Desirable
* Higher degree (e.g., PhD/MD) submitted/awarded
* Evidence of clinical leadership role demonstrating accountability for quality of care, financial controls and efficient workforce management
