Level 2 Teaching Assistant – KS1 SEN (1:1)
Newton Aycliffe | Full-Time | Long-Term Role
We are currently recruiting a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to support a KS1 pupil on a 1:1 basis in a welcoming and supportive primary school in Newton Aycliffe.
This is a hands-on, rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping young children with additional needs feel safe, supported and confident in school.
The role:
You will be working closely with one pupil supporting both learning and emotional regulation throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Providing 1:1 classroom support to help the child access learning
* Supporting communication and language development
* Assisting with attention, focus and task engagement
* Implementing strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour
* Supporting social interaction and play with peers
* Working alongside the class teacher and SENCO to follow the child’s EHCP
* Helping with transitions, routines and structured activities
* Providing reassurance and consistency in a calm, nurturing manner
We need:
Experience with one or more of the following would be highly beneficial:
* Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
* Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
* ADHD
* Sensory processing needs
* SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs)
* Learning delays in early years / KS1
(You do not need experience in all areas — support will be provided.)
Role Requirements:
* Holds a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
* Has experience supporting children with SEN in a school or early years setting
* Is patient, empathetic and consistent
* Understands the importance of routine and clear boundaries
* Can build a strong, trusting relationship with a young child
* Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
