We have an exciting new opportunity for a full‑time Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry and Lead in Memory Services working for a leading Trust in Northern Ireland, UK. This 2‑year fixed term contract requires full‑time work (10 programmed activities per week) and may be extended. It is based at the second largest teaching hospital in Northern Ireland.
The post‑holder will provide consultant medical input to the memory diagnostic service, providing assessment and diagnosis in conjunction with other professionals and liaising with other medical services in more complex cases.
The post‑holder will work closely with the older people’s community mental health team to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment to patients with dementia and older people with mental health problems in out‑patient clinics, and review patients who are unable to attend clinics wherever they reside within the locality.
The post‑holder will work with colleagues to provide the Memory Assessment Service, providing diagnosis, assessment and management in conjunction with other professionals.
The post‑holder will assist with the provision of teaching and clinical supervision for medical students, medical post‑graduate students and others receiving training in the care of older people with dementia and functional mental illness, as well as those providing care to younger people with dementia. They may be expected to provide supervision for one or more postgraduate trainees in addition to providing clinical supervision for members of the multi‑disciplinary team, including SAS Doctors.
Key Requirements
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practice.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Old Age Psychiatry via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.
Alternative Requirements
* On the Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry with at least 18 months experience as a consultant in old age psychiatry within the last 3 years (with satisfactory appraisal).
* At least 7 years post registration experience including at least 5 years in psychiatry and 3 years of Higher Professional Training (or equivalent), with 2 years in old age psychiatry.
* Hold a driving licence valid for use in the UK (International licence valid for 1 year).
* Desirable: Higher degree, qualification in management, publications/research, formal qualification in psychotherapy, formal educational qualification, involvement in high‑quality audit or quality improvement work.
* Salary: £106,424 to £139,920 per annum.
