The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Level 3) has a greater degree of autonomy than the Healthcare Assistant and undertakes a broader range of health and care tasks in accordance with policy and procedures. The post holder will work on their own initiative within the care home in-reach team, undertaking delegated tasks with appropriate supervision from a registered practitioner or assistant practitioner.
The post holder contributes to assessment and assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualised care plans. They will supervise other staff and promote high-quality care.
Assist the Registered Practitioner/Assistant Practitioner in assessing, planning, managing, and evaluating care delivery in a community setting. Support clinical/risk assessments under supervision, providing feedback as necessary. Deliver safe, compassionate care following individualised care plans, supporting patients with activities of daily living and providing feedback on progress.
Responsible to: Team Leader and Lead Nurse. Reporting: Accountable to: Professionally.
Main duties of the job
Delivering Patient Care:
* Carry out delegated clinical and care tasks to a high standard under supervision, including performing patient observations, working with patients with complex mental health needs, and administering rescue medication as delegated.
* Observe behaviours and intervene or escalate as appropriate. Develop competencies and practice clinical skills relevant to the patient group.

Qualifications
* Minimum QCF Level 3 qualification
* Evidence of personal development and understanding of the role within the nursing team
* Experience in specialist care settings and knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales
* Knowledge of fundamental care aspects, health promotion, and basic physiology
* Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, consent, and the Health Board's values
* Attendance at relevant courses/study days
* Understanding of conditions like dementia, mental illness, learning disabilities
Aptitudes and Abilities
* Adherence to SBU Values & Behaviours
* Caring and compassionate attitude, effective communication skills, procedural competence, team working, organisational skills, and escalation abilities
* Welsh language skills are desirable.
