Job Overview

There are three posts available for whole‑time non‑resident Advance Endoscopy Fellow to work as a ‘middle‑grade’ SpR‑equivalent at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. These posts are designed to provide the candidate(s) with additional experience in luminal endoscopy and advanced therapeutic endoscopy/EUS/ERCP either in upper or lower GI, at a peri‑ or post‑CCT level.

The posts are a six‑month contract in the first instance, with the option by mutual agreement to extend this by a further six months.

Scope and Training

The endoscopy department provides an extensive range of both diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and will provide an excellent opportunity for the candidate(s) to develop a specialist interest in therapeutic endoscopy. UHL is also involved in the national bowel cancer screening programme and delivers a large programme of JAG courses.

Required Qualifications

* Completed basic medical training
* Passed MRCP examination
* Hold a valid JAG certificate
* Independent in diagnostic upper & lower GI endoscopy
* Curriculum Vitae shows good career progression (preference given)

Key Responsibilities

* Three supervised training lists per week (ERCP/EUS/therapeutic endoscopy – dependent on specialist area chosen) plus two service lists
* One outpatient clinic and one inpatient review session, including peri‑procedural care and consent
* One administrative session, two research sessions and one MDT session
* Triage/review of EUS referrals; participation in HPB/luminal MDTs
* Taking part in research activities
* Optional participation in Gastroenterology/GI bleed rota subject to experience and service need
* Lunchtime meetings including X‑ray, endoscopy journal club, junior doctor DDC educational meetings and morbidity and mortality
* Not expected to cover evening, night or weekend on calls/duties or Bank Holidays
* Expected to run two endoscopy sessions on a weekend list on a 1 in 4 frequency

Working Pattern

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Endoscopy services operate from seven hospital sites across the county and the successful post holder will be expected to work flexibly across these sites, primarily from the three acute hospital sites in Leicester.

Career Development and Strategy

Our new strategy, developed with support and feedback from colleagues, patients and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023‑2030). It includes four primary goals: high‑quality care for all, being a great place to work, partnerships for impact, and research and education excellence. We embed health equality in all we do, taking active steps to reduce avoidable differences in healthcare. Our values: compassionate, proud, inclusive, and one team.
