Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinician to join us in the Tissue Viability service. This would be an ideal opportunity for a clinician with a passion for Tissue Viability who would like to broaden their knowledge and skills in a supportive and friendly team. The successful candidate will already possess wound care and tissue viability knowledge and understanding.

The Tissue Viability Nurses (TVN) sits within the Harm Free Care team in Bedfordshire hospitals. You will be working in a team of 4 TVNs with a cross site lead nurse. This position is based on the Luton site but there will be a requirement of working closely with and supporting the team on both sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to work as an autonomous practitioner and effectively co-ordinate and deliver enhanced wound care within the field of tissue viability under the supervision of the Lead Nurse for Tissue Viability

To liaise in collaboration with other health professionals a comprehensive tissue viability service for Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

Disseminate specialist’s skills and knowledge through teaching sessions to patients, carers, nurses and managers, assisting and participating in formal study days when needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work as an autonomous practitioner and effectively co-ordinate and deliver enhanced wound care within the field of tissue viability under the supervision of the Lead Nurse for Tissue Viability.
To demonstrate team working skills and be adaptable to change at short notice.
To liaise in collaboration with other health professionals a comprehensive tissue viability service for Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
To manage a caseload of patients.
To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported.
Disseminate specialist’s skills and knowledge through teaching sessions to patients, carers, nurses and managers, assisting and participating in formal study days when needed.
In the absence of the Lead Nurse for Tissue Viability the post holder will assist in the smooth running of the tissue viability service and will provide clinical and managerial advice to nursing and support staff throughout the trust in matters relating

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Current Registered Nurse with the NMC
2. Degree in Nurse related specialty or working towards
3. Mentorship or teaching qualification
4. Previous Tissue viability experience in an acute or community related setting

Desirable criteria

5. Tissue viability related qualification or willing to work towards

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Post registration experience of working in an acute hospital setting
7. Demonstrates success support of a department manager
8. Has participated in clinical governance, research and audit
9. Evidence of teaching others

Desirable criteria

10. Experience of managing staff capability, conduct and sickness absence at the early stages

Knowledge

Essential criteria

11. Demonstrates awareness of current changes in the NHS – in particular related to Nursing
12. Ability to prioritise and organise workload
13. Can effectively use computers and software such as Word/Excel or the equivalent
14. Can adopt their leadership style to meet the needs of their staff
15. Ability to problem solve, anticipate and forward plan

Desirable criteria

16. Counselling or coaching skills

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
