The Haematology Directorate at Guy’s Hospital is seeking an experienced Practice Development Nurse to lead education and training across our world-class specialist services. This is a permanent post (secondment or fixed-term arrangements may be considered) and offers an excellent opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within an expanding directorate.
Clinical Areas
The post-holder will lead education and professional development across the Haematology Directorate, delivering care for patients with a wide range of conditions on:
1. Olive & Hazel Ward (3rd Floor, Bermondsey Wing):
A 26-bed inpatient unit with 9 beds across 3 bays and 17 isolation rooms, including 3 radionuclide rooms.
2. Hawthorn Ward (4th Floor, Bermondsey Wing):
A 15-bed ward with 12 beds across 4 bays and 3 isolation rooms.
3. Young Adult Unit (4th Floor, Bermondsey Wing):
A hybrid inpatient/outpatient service with 5 isolation rooms and 7 treatment chairs.
4. Haematology Day Unit (4th Floor, Southwark Wing):
An ambulatory unit with infusion suites and an Apheresis service.
Our services support patients with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, haemophilia, and immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). We also care for patients with solid tumours receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies and those requiring palliative care.

Main duties of the job
As a Practice Development Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of haematology nursing.
5. Lead the design and delivery of education and training programmes to ensure staff are supported in their professional development.
6. Promote evidence-based practice, research awareness, and clinical excellence across all wards and units.
7. Provide mentorship, supervision, and support to staff and students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
8. Work closely with Sisters/Charge Nurses and the Matron to maintain high standards of care and patient experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive registered nurse with:
9. Significant post-registration experience in haematology or oncology.
10. Training in Systemic Anti Cancer Treatment (SACT) is essential.
11. A strong background in teaching, mentorship, or staff development.
12. Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
13. A commitment to innovation, quality improvement, and continuous professional growth

Education Qualifications
Essential criteria
14. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
15. Degree
16. SACT UKONS Passport
17. Specialist professional knowledge of mentorship, education and development practice to Masters level or equivalent
18. Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development
Desirable criteria
19. Postgraduate Certificate Advanced Practice (Education)
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
20. Significant post registration experience within the speciality
21. Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating training sessions / programmes
22. Experience of mentoring/ supervising/ assessing students in practice
23. Experience of managing a team or caseload
24. Experience of involvement in educational initiatives
Skills/Knowledge
Essential criteria
25. Knowledge of educational standards and practice.
26. Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning and their application within the practice setting
27. Knowledge of local, regional and national policies pertaining to practice experience and education
28. Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods.
29. Knowledge of recruitment, selection and disciplinary procedures.
