3.5-Ton Driver – Multi-Drop Deliveries

Job Purpose:
To safely operate a 3.5-ton van or truck to deliver goods to multiple locations, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries while maintaining high standards of customer service and vehicle care. The role involves route planning, safe loading/unloading, and accurate record-keeping.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Driving & Route Management
Operate a 3.5-ton vehicle safely and efficiently in compliance with all road traffic regulations.
Plan and follow multi-drop delivery routes to ensure timely deliveries.
Adjust routes as needed to accommodate traffic, road closures, or urgent deliveries.
Maintain regular communication with the transport office regarding delivery progress or delays.
2. Loading & Unloading
Assist with loading goods onto the vehicle, ensuring secure and safe positioning to prevent damage.
Perform multi-drop deliveries, unloading items at each destination carefully.
Use appropriate equipment such as hand trucks, trolleys, or pallet trucks to handle goods safely.
Ensure goods are delivered in good condition, and report any discrepancies or damages.
3. Customer Service
Represent the company professionally during customer interactions.
Obtain signatures or proof of delivery where required.
Address minor customer concerns on-site or report issues back to the office promptly.
4. Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks, including tires, brakes, lights, fluids, and load security.
Report any vehicle defects or maintenance requirements to the Transport Manager.
Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle.
Comply with health and safety policies, including the correct use of PPE.
5. Record-Keeping & Documentation
Complete delivery paperwork accurately, including delivery notes, electronic proof of delivery, or digital logs.
Keep accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and vehicle inspections.
Report delivery exceptions or delays according to company procedures.
6. Compliance & Regulations
Follow company policies and procedures for transport, safety, and customer service.
Adhere to all road traffic laws and legal requirements for driving 3.5-ton vehicles.
Observe working time regulations and driver hours restrictions.

Basic numeracy and literacy skills for record-keeping.
Experience & Qualifications:
Valid UK Driving Licence with entitlement to drive 3.5-ton vehicles (Category C1 if applicable).
Experience in multi-drop deliveries or distribution preferred.
Familiarity with delivery documentation and electronic POD (Proof of Delivery) systems advantageous.
Health & Safety awareness, including manual handling and load securing.
Working Conditions:
Vehicle-based work with multi-drop delivery routes.
Standing, lifting, and manual handling required throughout the day.
Exposure to all weather conditions.
Shift work, including early starts and occasional weekends, may be required.
Overtime may be available during peak periods.
