The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity to join a major engineering programme at Sellafield, supporting one of the UK’s most complex nuclear decommissioning environments. Due to programme expansion and increased documentation demands, the client is strengthening its technical documentation capability to ensure robust, safety-led validation across a range of engineering systems. Working as part of a specialist team, you’ll play a proactive role in shaping high-quality operating and maintenance information, ensuring documentation is accurate, compliant and fully aligned with nuclear site standards. The role offers long-term stability, a technically engaging environment, and the chance to contribute directly to nationally significant work in a regulated setting.
Your duties and responsibilities:
As a Technical Author, you’ll support the production, validation and assurance of high-integrity Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals and other technical documents essential to nuclear operations. Unlike standard authoring roles, this position involves a more proactive role in the validation process—working directly with engineers, safety specialists and operational staff to confirm technical accuracy, completeness and compliance. You will also contribute to elements of the risk assessment process, ensuring documentation reflects safe systems of work, equipment hazards, and control measures aligned with Sellafield procedures.
You will engage with multidisciplinary teams, extract technical information from stakeholders, structure and author documentation to nuclear quality standards, and support the continuous improvement of document clarity, usability and regulatory alignment. Experience in nuclear environments is essential, with a strong understanding of configuration control, safety culture and the rigorous documentation expectations within the industry.
