Job Vacancy

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident and motivated individual to join our library team and be our Mobile Library driver/library assistant.

The Mobile Library works across Midlothian, working and engaging with our communities, schools and nurseries. You will be able to deliver a high standard of customer service and be committed to supporting literacy and reading, and enabling access to Council services for all. You will have experience of working with the public, together with good administrative, IT and communication skills. You must have an interest in the Library Service and a commitment to the provision of a high quality customer-focused service.

KNOWLEDGE

The jobholder requires a minimum qualification of three standard grades or equivalents including English and Mathematics. Relevant experience in a library or customer service role is desirable. It is essential that the jobholder has a current driver’s licence to C1 standard and a driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is advantageous.

The jobholder should be flexible with good communication and team working skills. You must have an interest in the Library Service and a commitment to the provision of an efficient and customer-focused service. Knowledge of different types of software and use of the internet is required in order to assist users with associated computer equipment.

Work Pattern: Mon 9am-4.45pm / Tue 11am-7pm / Wed 9am-4.45pm / Thurs 11am-7pm / Fri 9am-4pm

Weeks per year: 52

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £25,.45 per annum.

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act,. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you. For further information on the PVG Scheme please visit Please note that Disclosure Scotland has changed the way PVG certificates are issued. You will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate. If you do not grant access to Midlothian Council to view before access is removed, a further application will need to be generated, and this will incur an additional cost.
