We're looking for a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join our Talking Therapies team at HMP The Mount on a full‑time basis (35 hours per week). This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals experiencing low to moderate mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression, within a structured, recovery‑focused environment. Working within a Talking Therapies service, you'll deliver evidence‑based, low‑intensity psychological interventions (Step 2) designed to help people make meaningful progress in their mental health. You'll work 1:1 and in group settings, supporting individuals to develop practical coping strategies and move forward with confidence.
Responsibilities
* Assessing suitability for low‑intensity psychological interventions
* Delivering Step 2 Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression
* Providing 1:1 support and facilitating therapeutic groups
* Managing a structured caseload with appropriate prioritisation and care planning
* Working collaboratively with prison and partner agencies in a multidisciplinary setting
* Participating in clinical supervision and case management
* Maintaining accurate, high‑quality clinical records and risk assessments
Qualifications
* Qualified or trainee PWP with a recognised PWP qualification (or working towards it)
* Strong understanding of low‑intensity CBT‑based interventions
* Experience working within Talking Therapies / IAPT frameworks
* Ability to manage a caseload effectively and work within structured clinical pathways
* Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
* Commitment to collaborative, multidisciplinary working
* Confidence in risk assessment and safe practice within a secure setting

This is a role where structure meets purpose. Every day, you'll be working with people who may feel stuck or overwhelmed, helping them take practical, manageable steps towards change. Within a secure setting, your support can be a steady point of connection, helping individuals build insight, confidence, and coping strategies they can carry beyond the service.
All prison‑based roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and HMPPS security vetting. These checks can take up to 5 months to complete. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of both checks. Please note if you have lived overseas within the last 5 years then checks may take longer.
