We are delighted to open applications for an experienced, confident RVN to join and lead our surgery team at Blaise Veterinary Referrals as Surgery Clinical Team Leader. This is a senior clinical role within the nursing team, working within the disciplines of Soft Tissue, Orthopaedics and Neurology, and reporting to the Clinical Nursing Manager.
Located in Longbridge, Birmingham, our veterinary hospital is one of the largest multidisciplinary referral hospitals in the UK. With state‑of‑the‑art equipment to treat up to 10,000 pets a year, our brilliant team provides the very best veterinary care and support to clients, pets and referring vets.
Our veterinary referral services include Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, ECC, Internal Medicine, Interventional Radiology, Neurology, Oncology, Orthopaedics and Soft Tissue Surgery.
At Blaise, we have a specialist‑led 24‑hour emergency and critical care service in partnership with Vets Now, providing out‑of‑hours and emergency pet care for Birmingham and surrounding areas.

How You’ll Make a Difference
Our surgery referral service consults patients which may include urgent referral cases and inter‑disciplinary transfers from other services within the hospital. The team performs a range of surgeries including soft tissue, orthopaedic and neurology procedures.
Reporting to the Clinical Nursing Manager, you will have line management responsibility for a team of 9 nurses and VCAs within the disciplines of Soft Tissue and Orthopaedics. You will carry out reviews and oversee the performance management of your team with the support of the Clinical Nursing Manager.
Working Pattern
* Full‑time role
* 40 hours per week over 4 days
* Working hours between 7:00am and 8:00pm
General Responsibilities Include
* Work with your team to plan and oversee the day‑to‑day running of the service and the timely completion of the day’s procedures, as well as the smooth integration of the service into the hospital’s workflow
* Work within the service and closely with discipline specialists and interns to ensure a high‑quality service is always provided
* Liaise with the Clinical Floor Coordinator and ensure nurses and ACAs are used appropriately so the service can run smoothly, without delays and without impacting the workflow of other hospital services
* Support the development and introduction of new processes that expand and improve the service and work with the Clinical Nursing Manager on company‑wide projects
* Set an example to your team and foster a supportive and friendly working environment to create an enthusiastic, high‑performing and clinically competent team
You Might Be a Great Fit If…and Skills
* Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
* Further qualification in surgery would be desirable, such as a certificate, Advanced Diploma or VTS
* Significant experience in clinical practice with advanced nursing skills in surgery
* Demonstrable leadership experience, including line management, coaching and development
* Experience working with complex surgical cases in a referral or advanced‑care setting
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
* A commitment to evidence‑based practice, clinical governance and continuous improvement
