About the Role We are seeking qualified Environmental Health Officers or Trading Standards Officers to carry out a wide range of public protection duties. You will work across diverse areas including food safety, health and safety enforcement, animal health, consumer protection, licensing, and environmental control. This is a varied and challenging role that involves inspections, investigations, enforcement, and providing expert advice to businesses and residents. The role can be based from our Trowbridge, Chippenham or Salisbury offices.
Key Responsibilities Conduct inspections of high and medium-risk premises to ensure compliance with legislation.
Investigate complaints and take enforcement action where necessary.
Act as lead officer in specialist areas, providing guidance and interpreting complex legal issues.
Prepare reports, legal notices, and evidence for court proceedings; attend court as an expert witness.
Mentor and support trainee officers and contribute to training initiatives.
Participate in out-of-hours emergency response and investigations.
About You Degree/MSc in Environmental Health or Diploma in Trading Standards (statutory requirement).
EHORB registration (or working towards completion for newly qualified EHOs).
Strong knowledge of public protection legislation and ability to interpret complex legal requirements.
Excellent communication and diplomacy skills, with experience engaging diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and make decisions under pressure.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable: Membership of a relevant professional body (CIEH, CTSI), and post-qualification experience.
Additional Information This role requires a valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Enhanced DBS check required.
