We are looking for a dedicated Helpdesk / Switchboard Operator to join our team and provide an exceptional level of service across all hospital locations.
As a Switchboard Operator, you will be the first point of contact for internal and external calls, handling a wide range of enquiries, emergencies, and administrative support tasks.
You will manage call routing, emergency alerts, bleep systems, and alarm systems, while maintaining patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
The Role
Answer and transfer incoming and internal calls promptly, courteously, and accurately.
Operate hospital switchboard equipment, including PABX, alarm systems, and bleep/paging systems.
Respond to emergencies such as medical emergencies (2222 calls), cardiac arrests, violent patient incidents, and fire alarms.
Maintain accurate records in incident books, bleep logs, and switchboard documentation.
Support hospital staff with information and system assistance, including directory enquiries, taxi/transport requests, and on-call notifications.
Assist with the management of bleep assignments, replacements, and redirections.
Follow Major Incident Plans and emergency protocols as required.
Uphold confidentiality, data protection, and Trust governance policies.
About You
Previous experience in a healthcare or high-volume switchboard environment is desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Competence with IT and telecommunication systems.
Awareness of and compliance with NHS data protection and confidentiality standards.
