Overview
Are you an experienced Naval Architect with a passion for designing some of the world’s most advanced and luxurious superyachts? Laurent Giles Naval Architects, an industry leader with a legacy of innovation and technical excellence, is looking for a Senior Naval Architect to join our team in the New Forest, Hampshire. This is a unique opportunity to take a key role in the development of prestigious new builds and refits in the large yacht sector — from concept design to commissioning.
Role Description
You’ll lead and contribute to high-level Naval Architecture tasks across a range of exciting superyacht projects, including:
* Performing parametric analyses
* Developing hull lines and powering studies
* Performing stability calculations (intact and deterministic / probabilistic damage), ideally Maxsurf
* Undertaking detailed weight estimation and control assessments
* Supporting classification and statutory documentation (LSA, fire protection, etc.)
* Undertaking inclining experiments, deadweight surveys, and site visits
* Mentoring junior naval architects and assisting with bids and proposals
Qualifications
* Degree in Naval Architecture (or equivalent)
* Chartered Engineer or demonstrable possession of equivalent professional competence required to attain such status
* 8–10+ years of relevant experience, ideally in the large yacht sector
* Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks
* Superyacht fitout detailing and integration awareness
* Skilled in both 2D drafting and 3D modelling software, ideally AutoCAD and Rhino
* Excellent technical report writing skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* A team player who can also lead projects independently
* UK work authorisation
Nice-to-Have
* Experience in a shipyard or new build environment
* Marine engineering awareness
* Experience in attending commissioning trials
* Experience in developing tank testing procedures, hydrodynamics and structural analysis
* Ability to contribute to technical publications or industry presentations
