Overview
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor (HSW) to join our Power Transmission and Distribution Team based at the Lower Thames Crossing project in Grays, Essex. The HSW Advisor will support the project to drive HSW performance. The HSW Advisor will ensure efficient and effective advice and support to meet (and where possible) exceed operational requirements. The HSW Advisor will support the Head of HSW and Advisor to enable the project to achieve our Zero Harm objectives. The Lower Thames Crossing will create a new connection under the River Thames to increase capacity and ease congestion in the South of England. Balfour Beatty will be responsible for the design and delivery of over 10 miles of new highways, connecting the M25 at Junction 29 and the A13 with the Lower Thames Crossing tunnel at Tilbury, Essex.
Responsibilities
* Fully understand and support delivery of UK HSW Strategy.
* Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the Zero Harm Action Plan and Sustainability Action plan
* Support the delivery of the HSW Key Performance Indicators at project & business level.
* Support work winning teams with quality & innovative HSW responses for bids, proposals and PQQs.
* Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and BMS requirements.
* In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke risk based Service Level Agreement with each project which is kept under quarterly review.
* Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix.
* Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned HSW inspections which review project performance against the UK HSWS Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System (BMS) requirements.
* Undertakes regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management ensuring that appropriate risks and opportunities have been identified and are being implemented.
Qualifications
* NEBOSH/NCRQ Diploma in Health and Safety or working towards
* Strong knowledge of electrical safety and working in either substation, cabling or overhead line environment.
* A strong communicator able to express clearly and succinctly ideas, plans and priorities to a wide audience and across all levels of the organisation.
* A confident and engaging individual, who can motivate others and who has strong influencing skills.
* An effective listener, able to quickly assess situations or problems and can demonstrate a flexible approach to problem solving.
* Strong analytical skills with excellent report writing and presentation skills.
* Responds well when working within a team or independently, and able to respond calmly and with empathy when working under conditions of continuing pressure and to deadlines to achieve the desired target and goals.
* Experience of conducting, accident / incident investigations and establishing root causes.
* Experience of undertaking risk based health & safety and/or environmental and/or quality inspections/ audits and producing reports of findings.
* Demonstrates drive and enthusiasm for the role, taking responsibility for their learning and development.
* Strong IT Skills (Outlook, Word Excel, PowerPoint).
* Good depth of knowledge in health & safety law, environmental law & ecological matters.
* Willing & able to travel across England and Wales. Work away from home and work independently without direct supervision.
* Full driving licence
