A Quality Technician will understand standards and requirements for the qualification of aerospace parts, inspection techniques and decision making, building up to being a quality delegate with ability to develop procedures and support the requirements of AS9100/9120 certification.
Wage
£14,526.20 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age.
Training course
Engineering manufacturing technician (level 4)
Hours Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:30 (37 hours a week).
Duration: 2 years.
Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.
What you'll do at work
* Support the delivery of high reliability aerospace components by assisting with inspection, testing and documentation processes across the lifecycle of the parts in Apollo.
* Learn to conduct dimensional checks, review technical specifications and verify that materials and assemblies meet stringent aerospace standards.
* Work alongside experienced quality engineers; the apprentice will participate in root‑cause analysis, non‑conformance investigations and continuous improvement activities.
* Contribute to maintaining accurate quality records, supporting procedure updates and audits, whilst ensuring compliance with Apollo's quality management system and industry regulations.

Training course details
* Read and extract relevant engineering and manufacturing data, make conclusions and informed decisions.
* Use project management tools (SWOT, stakeholder matrices, risk mapping, radar chart) and problem‑solving tools (RCA, PFMEA, Fishbone, PPS, APQP).
* Analyse data to generate manufacturing engineering documentation such as PPM quality adherence, cost analysis and test data.
* Communicate using appropriate methods for the audience (formal/informal presentations, written reports, verbal, electronic, social media).
* Use process and quality compliance procedures to create or amend engineering or manufacturing documentation.
* Apply lean tools and techniques (Six Sigma, 8 Wastes, 5S, Kaizen, Poka‑Yoke).
* Manage documentation control processes (format, location, access, authorisation).
* Use financial planning, recording and review processes (budgets, cost control, forecasting, investment appraisal).
* Operate CAD and other computer‑based systems for analysis and documentation.
You will be required to attend the Institute of Technology, Dudley College, 1 day per week in term time only.
* You will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in the workplace up to every 8 weeks to support you with your apprenticeship.
* Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship you will receive an Engineering Manufacturing Technician HNC Level 4 – Mechanical qualification.
Requirements
GCSE in:
English (grade C/4/Level 2 Functional Skills)
Other in:
Level 3 in Engineering/3 A Levels – Maths & Science (grade Pass)
