Senior Financial Accountant

About the Role
We require an experienced and highly trained financial accountant for 6 months, to lead financial process change in our commercial Archaeology Unit. The role holder will focus on reviewin revenue and expenditure recognition practices to ensure they are compliant with relevant financial reporting standards.
The completion of the work will see a set of recommendations implemented across the organisation that ensure it’s revenue recognition and expenditure recognition is compliant with financial reporting standards (FRS ), whilst also improving its financial strength. The role is based in Brighton and will require face to face support.
Duties and responsibilities
Main areas of responsibility will include:
•Lead financial process change to comply with recent audit guidelines
•Guide appropriate record capture to inform accurate financial management
•Support the statutory audit process through liaison with the auditors and coordination with key functional areas such as the Professional Services Hub and Central Finance teams
•Share specific skills and experience with colleagues from across the business;
•Coordinate the posting of relevant month-end journals, including recognition of income and expenditure, deferrals and accruals.
•Develop and maintain process notes for key tasks undertaken ensuring that controls are adequate and functioning effectively;
•Maintaining effective business as usual operations through delivery of a continuous programme of service enhancement.
•Contribute to training events and share specific skills and experience with non-finance colleagues from across the business;
•Contribute to team initiatives, adopting a collaborative and supportive approach;
•Provide ad hoc analysis and analytical review as required by line managers and other stakeholders across ASE to help improve financial planning and financial performance.

Qualifications, experience and knowledge
•Fully qualified (CCAB) Accountant
•Previous experience of financial accounting in a large and complex organisation
•Previous experience of reporting under UK GAAP management reporting and audit, with particular focus on revenue recognition
•Experience of supporting strong financial management and compliance for multi-year and multi-element contracts
•Previous experience of implementing financial process improvements
•Experience of using Oracle or similar accounting packages is desirable
