Rate of Pay: £15.50- £19.36 per hour
Summary:
Swindon Borough Council is seeking a reliable and skilled Waste Driver to join its Waste & Recycling team. The postholder will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of refuse and recycling collection vehicles, supervising collection crews, ensuring high standards of customer care, and maintaining accurate records. This role requires hands-on manual labour, flexibility with working hours, and a strong commitment to health and safety.
Responsibilities:
* Drive and be fully responsible for allocated waste/recycling collection vehicles.
* Conduct daily vehicle checks, perform routine maintenance (e.g., oil and water), and use the vehicle wash bay for cleaning.
* Assist in loading/unloading waste and recycling materials when required.
* Ensure waste is collected efficiently and in accordance with the prescribed route and schedule.
* Deliver exceptional customer service by responding courteously to the public and ensuring spillage is cleaned and bins are returned properly.
* Maintain awareness of the safety and wellbeing of team members, pedestrians, children, cyclists, and other road users.
Experience:
* Proven experience operating refuse/recycling vehicles.
* Experience completing daily vehicle log sheets and using tachographs.
* Experience working in waste collection and recycling services.
Essentials:
* Valid and current HGV licence.
* Familiarity with ICT systems for updating service information.
* NVQ Level 2 in Waste Management or equivalent (or willingness to work toward qualification).
