Senior Project Manager – Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks
Base Location: Basingstoke, Reading, Swindon, Oxford, Slough, Hayes, Southampton or Portsmouth.
Salary: £58,100 – £87,100 + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available | Majority of your working week will be spent in‑person at office or site locations.
Role Overview
SSEN is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our team and support the Distribution ED2 price control period, delivering Net Zero‑enabling projects through the upgrade and replacement of our electricity network. As part of the Large Capital Delivery team, you will lead multidisciplinary project teams in the design and execution of electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring safe, on‑schedule, and on‑budget delivery while meeting evolving customer needs.
You will
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, demonstrating professionalism across all stages of project delivery.
* Ensure a robust and high‑quality programme of works, actively maintained throughout the lifecycle, interpreting the programme to oversee critical path activities, coordinate workstreams, and track key material deliveries.
* Set up financial controls and measures that provide visibility of all project expenditure and enable interrogation of costs at any time.
* Lead, motivate, challenge and empower the team to achieve goals and milestones, clearly instructing members to understand the impact of their role and celebrating achievements.
* Lead by example, demonstrating outstanding behaviour and acting as an ambassador for SSE SHE policies, values and culture internally and externally.
You have
* Experience in project design and delivery organization, managing capital infrastructure/engineering projects, driving delivery to programme, cost and quality.
* Experience in risk management, able to articulate key delivery risks and their impact on budget and programme.
* Exceptional leadership skills, with prior experience managing large, high‑performing teams.
* Solid understanding of commercial contracts, including advantages and limitations, and ability to apply the appropriate form to specific project needs.
* Experience in managing project stakeholders, ensuring alignment with processes such as communication protocols and response times to minimise delays and mitigate financial risk.
Travel across various locations is required; the company will provide a vehicle for work‑related travel. If you meet the company car policy criteria, you may join the company car scheme. A valid driving licence is essential.
