Senior Biomedical Scientist – Transfusion Laboratories
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Biomedical Scientists for the role of Senior Biomedical Scientist within the Transfusion Laboratories at University Hospitals Dorset.
Responsibilities
* Help manage and coordinate the day-to-day technical activities of the Transfusion Department, prioritising work so that a safe and timely service is available to meet patient needs.
* Coordinate and participate in the routine processing of specimens; allocate work to other BMS and MLA staff to ensure a smooth workflow.
* Ensure that, for each sample, the appropriate requested investigations are performed and components supplied in a timely manner.
* Ensure specialised and urgent specimens are appropriately dealt with.
* Participate in the technical work as required.
* Ensure appropriate maintenance and safe use of equipment.
* Assist in the development of rosters in conjunction with senior biomedical staff and liaise to provide continuous cover from the start of each day.
* Co‑ordinate adequate supplies of laboratory consumables and reagents and manage stock control.
* Contribute to audit activities.
* Contribute to the maintenance and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Qualifications & Requirements
* Extensive experience in Transfusion at a specialist level.
* Well‑motivated with the ability to lead colleagues.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Professional and personal development is encouraged and will be supported by the department.
* Knowledge of BSQR, GPG and transfusion related guidelines would be advantageous.
* Required HCPC registration.
* Applicants currently enrolled in a suitable MSc programme (or equivalent) will be considered.
Employment Details
* Post is cross‑site, working at both Poole and Bournemouth; base location is Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
* Flexibility to work in line with departmental priorities is essential.
