Job Title: Management Accountant
Location: Hull - Hybrid (3 days in office)
Salary: Up to £45k (DOE)
Reports to: Executive Director
Future Progression: Management Controller - Finance Director
Overview
A high-growth, service-based SME operating in a regulated sector is seeking a dynamic and hands-on Management Accountant to take ownership of its finance function. The successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day finance operations, working at a transactional and reporting level while implementing process improvements and supporting strategic planning.
This role is ideal for someone comfortable working in the detail and undertaking daily tasks independently. Initially focused on execution and process-building, this role offers a defined route into leadership as responsibilities expand and the business scales.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Compliance:
* Prepare full monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
* Oversee: Bank reconciliations - Accounts payable and receivable - Accruals, prepayments, journals
* Ensure accurate and timely VAT submissions and other compliance filings
* Monitor cash flow and working capital on a weekly/monthly basis
* Assist with year-end financial processes, audits, and tax preparation to ensure all financial documentation is compliant with accounting standards
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring they are in line with UK accounting regulations
* Collaborate across departments to ensure financial data is accurate and contributes to effective decision-making
Costing & Commercial Analysis
* Work closely with the CCO to track and analyse Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) by service or project, ensuring accuracy in cost allocation and supporting gross margin insights
* Analyse gross margin performance across service offerings, identifying variances and drivers behind profitability.
* Assist with pricing models and cost structure reviews
* Provide Financial insight to support operational decisions
Planning & Forecasting
* Support annual budgeting and reforecasting cycles
* Support the development and maintain rolling forecasts and scenario models to guide key financial and operational decisions
* Build out reporting tools (dashboards, KPIs) as the business scales
Systems & Process Development
* Maintain and improve use of SAP for financial processing and reporting
* Identify and implement improvements to finance processes and controls
* Support any ERP or system changes or upgrades
* Support and Mentor (3 Finance team members), overseeing daily activities and professional development.
* Collaborate with internal and external departments for year-end close, tax, and audit
* Work closely with internal departments and leadership to align finance with business activity
About You
* Qualified (ATT, CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
* Strong knowledge of COGS and cost/margin analysis
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Forms, Power Apps
* Proficient in SAP (FI/CO modules or similar)
* Proven ability to handle full-cycle accounting independently
* Hands-on, proactive in approach, takes ownership and is comfortable delivering the work directly
* Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
* Experience in cosmetics, pharma, FMCG or regulated sectors
