The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts. The Chesterfield Health District provides public health services to the residents of Chesterfield County, Powhatan County, and the City of Colonial Heights.
The Chesterfield Health District of the Virginia Department of Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Health (EH) Manager to lead a large environmental health team that conducts complex regulatory functions. The EH Manager oversees the environmental programs within the district, focused on immediate administrative and operational issues, policy administration, and quality assurance with less focus on daily supervision of staff. (Examples: food, milk, private well, onsite sewage, and rabies programs). The EH manager will also serve on the health district’s Senior Management Team which creates strategies that improve our district’s effectiveness in achieving its mission.

Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of all Environmental Health (EH) programs as well as epidemiology, leadership, and management principles
• Skills in program management, risk assessment, software automation, coaching/leading, and supervision
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on technical reports
• Ability to manage collaboratively complex, multifaceted EH programs, develop and manage teams, and create shared visions
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, the public, and state and local government officials
• Ability to handle difficult and rapidly changing scenarios
Additional Considerations
• Knowledge and experience in public health, environmental health or science, and additional experience in management or administration
• NEHA Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) credentialed
• Environmental Health Specialist Senior or Environmental Health Technical Specialist certifications preferred
