Mechanical Design Engineer – Life Sciences / MedTech
Cambridge (on-site)
Competitive salary + bonus + benefits
I’m working with a high-end product development consultancy known for solving complex engineering challenges across life sciences, MedTech, and advanced technology sectors.
They’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys working on technically challenging projects, from early-stage concept through to functional prototypes and product development.
The Role
This isn’t a typical in-house design role.
You’ll be working across a range of projects, supporting the development of innovative devices and systems within life sciences and medical technology.
Typical work includes:
* Designing complex mechanical components and assemblies
* Developing concepts into working prototypes
* Contributing to full product development lifecycles
* Working closely with multidisciplinary teams (electronics, software, scientists)
* Solving challenging engineering problems across different industries
Projects vary, but often involve precision mechanisms, fluidic systems, or novel device concepts.
What They’re Looking For
* Background in Mechanical Engineering or similar
* Experience in product development, R&D, or design engineering
* Strong CAD skills (e.g. SolidWorks or similar)
* Comfortable working from concept through to prototype
* Interest or experience in life sciences, MedTech, or complex systems
You don’t need to come from a consultancy background, but you do need to enjoy variety and problem-solving.
Why This Role?
* Work on a wide range of cutting-edge projects rather than a single product
* Exposure to early-stage innovation and real-world applications
* Collaborate with high-performing, multidisciplinary teams
* Clear development into senior or consultant-level roles
* Strong reputation within the Cambridge engineering and innovation space
