Healthcare Support Worker - Haematology Day Unit
Job Summary
An exciting opportunity for a confident and motivated individual passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. The role involves a range of delegated clinical tasks such as patient observations, cannulation, phlebotomy, administrative work and more. The post holder will work with the clinical haematology team to continue the rapid development of the day unit by ensuring all patients receive effective, compassionate and efficient care.
Services offered by the unit include blood transfusions, exchange transfusions, iron infusions, infusions for other haematological conditions, venesections and blood tests. Patients attending the unit may have conditions such as sickle cell, thalassaemia, ITP, haemophilia, haemochromatosis, anaemia and clotting disorders. This role is ideal for anyone who wishes to make a difference to patients’ experience whilst supporting and collaborating with the nursing, administration and medical teams.
Main duties of the job
* Actively take part in meeting the needs of patients and the service in accordance with agreed standards.
* Work under direct supervision of registered nurses, nurse associates and midwives.
* Develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality.

Person Specification
* Essential Qualifications
o Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent.
o Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Maths GCSEs or equivalent).
o Evidence of ongoing personal development.
* Desirable Qualifications
o Level 2 support worker Apprenticeship.
* Essential Experience
o Demonstrable experience of working in a clinical healthcare setting.
o Experience of dealing with the public.
* Essential Knowledge
o Awareness of health and safety at work, e.g. manual handling skills, infection control measures.
o Ability to collect and share factual information and data with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring data accuracy.
