Apprentice Engineer

Location: West Midlands Hospital, Stourside Hospital & The Westbourne Centre.

Type: Full Time | Apprenticeship

The Role

As an Apprentice Engineer, you will work alongside our experienced team to gain the practical skills and knowledge required to become a competent and qualified Engineer. This hands-on role is essential in helping ensure that the equipment and systems at our Sterile Services Hub are maintained to the highest safety and performance standards.

You will support the maintenance of a safe, effective, and efficient sterile services environment while undertaking your qualification.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. · Participate in planned preventative maintenance (PPMs), including water testing, fire alarm testing, AHU inspection and filter changes.
2. · Maintain a high standard of Health & Safety awareness and safe working practices.
3. · Carry out minor ad hoc repairs and replacements within the unit (, lighting, plasterwork, plumbing).
4. · Shadow experienced hospital engineers to gain first-hand industry experience.
5. · Attend college and other required training sessions regularly and punctually.

Learn and develop knowledge in:

6. o City and Guilds Part 1 / 2 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
7. o NVQ Level 2 / 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
8. o Health & Safety, including IOSH
9. o Permit to Work modules
10. o Responsible Person (RP) for Legionella
11. o Responsible Person (RP) for Medical Gases

Key Deliverables of the Role

12. · Successfully complete all knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship framework.
13. · Meet all the criteria necessary to pass the apprenticeship programme.

Role Criteria

14. · A minimum of GCSE Grade 4+ in Maths (or equivalent)
15. · A minimum of GCSE Grade 4+ in English (or equivalent)
16. · Maths and English qualifications form a mandatory part of the apprenticeship and must be completed to pass.
