Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Histology

We have a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist post vacant within the Histology department based at Queen’s Hospital, Romford. The department receives 40,000 patient episodes (requests) per annum amounting to 73,000 plus specimens from a full range of care group specialties.
Responsibilities
The post holder will perform the scientific investigations required in the Department of Histology under the direction of the senior Biomedical Scientists. Delegated duties may include supervision of trainees, involvement in training, quality and health and safety. The purpose of the role is to support the diagnostic service provided by the department to the Trust.
Qualifications
* HCPC registered.
* Completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology or have extensive recent experience working as a BMS in Histology.
* Currently working in a routine histology laboratory with experience in this field.
* Friendly, professional, proactive, self‑motivating, innovative.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, organisation and manual dexterity skills.
* Patient focused approach and committed to continual improvement of self, the service and the team.
Location
This post is based at Queen’s Hospital, Romford, but all staff must be prepared to work at King George Hospital if required.
Working Hours
The department operates Monday to Friday but may look to extend this in 2026.
Probationary Period
All new staff appointed at the Trust are subject to a probationary period.
